Long before the seperation of Earth's two hemispheres heralded the beginning of the KO CENTURY BEAST saga, the human race constructed two supercomputers -- one at each of the magnetic poles -- from a substance known as Bio-Plana (more readily described as "energy with will"), in an effort to improve their quality of life.
Presumably named after the original Creators in Greek mythology because of the sheer extent of their power, both machines -- being sentient, and capable of not only thought, but emotion, too -- were left to choose for themselves an appropriate course of action to improve humanity's standard of living; something that proved to be a grave mistake as neither machine reached the same choice of plan.
One, GAIA ("Mother Earth" in the Greeks myths), who held reign over the northern hemisphere, decided that such a mission was to best acomplished by embracing nature; while the other, URANUS (or "Father Sky"), had concluded that technology and mechanization was the only way to go.
Not content to with control over just the southern hemisphere, URANUS decided that it was his ( yes, we know computers are genderless, but trust us: it's easier to write if we pretend they're not ) duty to do the same for all of human kind, and declared war on both GAIA and the North, destroying vasts amounts of the Northern hemisphere and it's inhabitants.
In order to prevent URANUS from his inevitable victory, GAIA unleashes a final solution; and, using all her available power, banished the Southern hemisphere into another dimension.
